While discussing her previous career as a burlesque dancer, Aunt Flora (Linda Lavin), starts to shimmy and says "Here she is boys! Here she is world!' These are lines from the song "Rose's Turn" from the Broadway musical Gypsy, about burlesque performers. Linda Lavin played the lead role of Mama Rose in the 1973 Broadway revival. Ironically, three of director Katt Shea's earliest films featured burlesque/exotic dancers.
This Nancy Drew title was previously produced as Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase (1939).
The mention of the Lilac Inn and an "evil twin" near the end of the movie are referencing the Nancy Drew novel The Mystery at The Lilac Inn which also featured an "apparition" who looked just like Nancy.
Filmed under Ellen DeGeneres' Very Good Productions label.
The name of the street above the stop sign where Nancy Drew was stopped in her aunt's car is "Baker Street". Sherlock Holmes' home address is also in Baker Street.
"[first lines] [to three old men in a coffee shop] George Fayne: Hey! Have you seen Nancy Drew? Old Man in Coffee Shop: Nancy who? George Fayne: [running away] Never mind, thanks!"
"[Nancy and George pound on Bess's bedroom door] Bess Marvin: Please, guys. Go away. Nancy Drew: We're not leaving. Bess Marvin: Great. I'm so pathetic, my friends have to come and rescue me. I'm an even bigger loser than I thought. Nancy Drew: Okay, if... if needing your friends means you're a loser, then I'm the biggest, loser of all, 'cause you guys make me forget I live in this one-horse town every day. [George suddenly opens the door, nearly causing Nancy to fall] Nancy Drew: Geez! Bess Marvin: Hey. Nancy Drew: [laughing] Hi. Bess Marvin: Actually, River Heights has four horses."
