The film is full of codes. Nielsen (Alison Doody) is TV ratings. Charles Lyndon (Linus Roache) represents the middle names of Tony Blair. Nash is named after John Nash and Hardin is named after Garrett Hardin (Game Theory) who stated "We can never do merely one thing". Hardin's prison number is that of Primo Levi.

The film was shot in Detroit. Ryan Gosling was also shooting at the time. Both directors got pulled up by cops during recces.
