The original Swedish film adaptation was nominated for two Academy Awards and was the highest grossing foreign film of 2016 in the United States.
The young Otto is played by Truman Hanks, Tom's real life son, who was 26 years old during principal photography.
In one scene Tom Hanks face had to be digitally de-aged to make him appear in his mid thirties. The VFX team used footage and stills from 'The Burbs' (1989) to create a digital blueprint in order to achieve this.
The Fredrik Backman book and Swedish film were entitled A Man Called Ove.
Otto's clothes and wedding ring are too large (he wasn't eating). When Otto was reliving memories of his 20s-something self (played by his real life son Truman Hanks) you can briefly see a reflection as the older, present day Otto.
"Otto Anderson: It was totally the Clown's Fault!"
"Abbie: Hi. What's your name? Otto Anderson: Otto. O-T-T-O. Abbie: I'm Abbie, O-T-T-O."
