The English estate where J. Paul Getty spent the end of his life, Sutton Place, had been previously occupied by the Duke of Sutherland.
Coincidentally, this went into production at the same time as Ridley Scott's All the Money in the World (2017).
Hilary Swank and Donald Sutherland previously worked on Buffy, the Vampire Slayer (1992).
Jean Paul Getty's portrayals in this miniseries and Ridley Scott's All the Money in the World (2017) are both by Canadian actors Donald Sutherland and Christopher Plummer.
Donald Sutherland's character, J.Paul Getty, also appeared in All the Money in the World (2017).. Originally, the part was played by Kevin Spacey, with whom Sutherland appeared in Outbreak (1995) and A Time to Kill (1996). Spacey was later replaced by Christopher Plummer, with whom Sutherland appeared in Hamlet at Elsinore (1964).
