Henriette Delille was known for founding an African American religious order in New Orleans. The order provided education for free and enslaved black people, contrary to Louisiana law. The order also provided education to some of the poor white people in New Orleans. She also founded a sisterhood, called Sisters of the Holy Family. They provided nursing care and a home for orphans.
