The Choice (2016) is Nicholas Sparks' eleventh book made into a movie.
Clint Eastwood's son, Scott Eastwood, was originally cast in this film but was replaced by Tom Welling and put into another movie from a book also written by Nicholas Sparks, called The Longest Ride (2015), which came out in April 10, 2015.
There is a scene where Ben is talking to Gabby about the older couple that used to play records and dance outside. This is mostly likely a nod to Noah and Allie from the notebook. He mentions that they are still alive living in a retirement home.
The movie was filmed in Wilmington, NC.
The wooden box that Adrienne made for Paul in "Nights in Rodanthe" is featured when Travis is going through Gabby's things.
"Travis: Why do you make it so hard for me to flirt with you? Gabby: Because if I made it easy you wouldn't flirt with me anymore."
"Gabby: I heard every word you said. You were breathing for me baby. Your heart beat for mine."
