In a pub scene when Marwan leaves a meeting with Danny ("Alex"), a writing can be seen "Beware of little expenses, a small leak will sink a great ship".
The character of Diana Ellis is clearly inspired by Diana Dors, a British actress in the 1960s and 1970s who was considered the "English Marilyn Monroe." Like the character in this film, she became infamous for the "adult parties" she held in her home, where she would supply celebrities with alcohol and drugs and film their sexual encounters with young starlets, who were allowed to attend for free if they ensured their famous partners performed at the right angles for the hidden cameras. It's unknown whether the real-life Diana Dors and Ashraf Marwan actually knew each other.
This is the first Netflix original film from the Israel.
Marwan Kenzari and Toby Kebbell also starred together in Ben-Hur (2016).
Marwan reads the Arabic version of the famous tale of the Boy Who Cried Wolf to his son during his brief visits with his family. As he reaches the end of the book during one of his nighttime readings with his son, Marwan comes to the realization that he has become the boy in the story and he is playing with real life wolves in sheep clothing.
"[first lines] Ashraf Marwan: [narrating] 1967. The Summer of Love. But can the idea of love and peace really bring about change to a world living on the edge of war? In the Middle East, long-simmering tensions are about to burst into flames."
"Danny Ben Aroya: This is how liars are rewarded. Even if you tell the truth, no one believes you."
