The Bog King's design was based on a praying mantis and a cockroach.
The Fairy King is modeled after George Lucas.
The sisters Marianne and Dawn were to have long brown hair, but to save on animation costs it was changed to Marianne having short hair and Dawn having blonde.
George Lucas wrote this film because he wanted to make a fun movie and a musical.
George Lucas describes the story's main theme as the difference between infatuation and true love: "Love is on the inside, it's somebody you have common ground with. It's someone you share the same values with, common interests. You share the things that will last you the rest of your lives, and what the person looks like will not."
"[from trailer] [fight] Bog King: You fight well! Marianne: I wish I could say the same about you! Bog King: What do you mean? Marianne: I don't know, I was expecting... more. [smiles at Bog King] Bog King: What?"
"Dawn: I love you! Bog King: But I'm evil!"
