Nicolas Cage is a huge fan of Neon Flesh Extra (2010), Paco Cabezas's second movie and the one that caught the attention of Hollywood. According to Cabezas, Cage specially loved the performance of Macarena Gómez, and even tried to have her on Tokarev for a role, but Gómez's schedule didn't allow it.
Filmed in Mobile, Alabama.
The Mustang Nicolas Cage drives is the same paint scheme (gun-metal gray with black racing stripes) as Eleanor, the 1967 Mustang GT500 from Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), which also stars Cage.
"Vory" is acrually plural in Russian, the singular would be "vor", which literally translates as thief, but in criminal slang has a meaning "a criminal boss"
Nicolas Cage and Peter Stormare previously co-starred in 8MM (1999) and Windtalkers (2002).
"Paul Maguire: I killed a man, when I was seventeen. Caitlin's age. I got into a fight. Someone handed me a knife. Sometimes I dream about that night. In the dream I see myself, and I try to stop it, but I can't. Then I wake up, and I wonder what would have happened, if no one handed me that knife. What my life, what our lives, might have been. Vanessa: Paul. Paul Maguire: I'm sorry I let you down."
"Chernov: When I was 19 years old I was the Number 1 Light Heavyweight champion in the Soviet Olympics Boxing Team. Did you know this? Francis O'Connell: No, I don't like sports. Especially not Soviet sports."
