Travis Aaron Wade replaced the lead actor in the film playing John Hickman just two days before filming.
The filmmakers wanted genuine wolf dogs for the production but the cost of utilizing the canines and their handlers was too high for their budget.
Musician Charlie Musselwhite, who plays general store proprietor Charlie in the film, had had a gig in San Diego at midnight, and drove through the night to get to the shoot for the morning. His dialogue was laid on him at the last second.
In one of the first scenes, there's a nightstand with some books on it. One of the books is "South of the Pumphouse" written by Les Claypool, who plays a small role in the movie.
The dog Wolfgang's scat is referred to as "Wolfgang's puck", a joke nod to famous chef Wolfgang Puck.
