Talisa Soto, who plays Ana, and Benjamin Bratt, who plays Che, are married in real life. They met on the set of Blood In, Blood Out (1993) where Rene, played by Jesse Borrego, stars alongside Benjamin Bratt.
Would be Talisa Soto's first acting role in 7 years since her role in Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever (2002). It would also be her last current acting role in her career (not counting an uncredited cameo in Elysium (2013) as Tisha).
Benjamin & Peter Bratt grew up in San Francisco & hung out in the Mission growing up.
I'm addition to its LGBT and masculinity themes, the film also has environmentalist themes, such as converting lowriders to run on biodiesel for instance. An eco-friendly film set was also used for shooting, one of the first of its kind in San Francisco. The cast and crew reduced waste by carrying reusable water bottles instead of plastic. Composting was also done on set, and the art department included some green product placement throughout the film. These efforts earned the film an Environmental Media Association (EMA) Green Seal Award in 2009 for the environmentally friendly production practices used on set.
"Che Rivera: Stay brown. Kenny: Can't do nothin' but."
"Che Rivera: You know what you are? Lena: I do, actually, but if I ever need a second opinion, I'll be sure to ask."
