Harry Hope is based off rappers Kanye West and Jay-Z and Drake.
The name of the fictional country with which Georgia is in conflict, "Ukbar", appears to be a reference to "Uqbar", a fictional country in the short story "Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius" by Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges. This is thematically relevant as the short story is about a country (and entire world) manifesting itself through fiction, while the film is about a war which does the same.
