D.J. MacHale, the creator of the original series, wrote a feature-length screenplay based on the show. The script was sold to Paramount, but was never produced for unknown reasons.
Is only the 3rd film from Nickelodeon Movies to be based off one of the Live Action Nickelodeon Shows, after Good Burger (1997) and Legends of the Hidden Temple.
The creator of the original TV series, D.J. MacHale, is not involved and wasn't approached to participate. He first heard about the project from a fan of the series.
This project was announced before negations had been finalized. The ownership of the original TV series is complicated and the release date of this film was established before the legal rights had been fully secured.
