Xiaomi testing a single, system-wide disable ads toggle button in HyperOS: report

Highlights
  • Xiaomi is reportedly testing one single toggle to disable system-wide ads.
  • The feature was seen working on a test build on the Xiaomi 13 Pro.
  • Currently, one can disable ads system-wide but this involves navigating through multiple menus and settings scattered across the system.

Xiaomi’s MIUI though offers quite a lot of features, it is the ads department that put off the whole seamless user experience. Owing to the disappointment of the customers, the company allowed them to uninstall default apps and toggle within specific apps to turn off recommendations/ ads. However, even that wasn’t enough as not everyone is aware of these multiple steps. In the latest development, it is heard that Xiaomi is testing one single toggle to disable system-wide ads.

HyperOS/MIUI might soon get a single toggle to disable ads

  • Xiaomi shows ads in the MIUI/HyperOS for monetary benefits.

  • Smartprix reports that Xiaomi is listening to customer feedback and is testing a single toggle button to disable all system-wide ads.
  • The feature was seen working on a test build on the Xiaomi 13 Pro.
  • Currently, one can disable ads system-wide but this involves navigating through multiple menus and settings scattered across the system.
  • This makes the whole process tedious and time-consuming. Most importantly, not everyone is aware of the steps.
  • This could be the reason why Xiaomi might be testing a new single system-wide toggle to disable ads. This streamlines the whole process and users will also have better control.
  • For Xiaomi, it can continue to generate revenue from users who wish to keep the ads option disabled.

Notably, the report doesn’t mention any rollout timeline and also notes that it is unclear at the moment whether the toggle button is added permanently or is only tested for a limited period in specific regions.
