Xiaomi pips Vivo to become India’s top smartphone maker in Q2 2024 : Canalys report

The Indian smartphone market saw a growth of 1 percent, with over 36.4 million units shipped in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024, according to a report by market research firm Canalys. The firm also mentioned that Xiaomi gained the top position after six quarters, and it was closely followed by another Chinese brand, Vivo. Indian smartphone market in Q2 (April-June 2024)

As per the report, Xiaomi regained the top spot in the Indian smartphone market after six quarters. The brand captured an 18 percent market share and shipped over 6.7 million units in the second quarter of 2024.

Canalys attributed Xiaomi’s top position in the country to the strong sales of the Redmi Note 13 Pro series and the recently announced Xiaomi 14 Civi smartphones.

Another smartphone brand, Vivo, secured the second spot with a similar shipment of 6.7 million units. The market research firm attributes the growth to the sales of affordable and mid-range 5G models.

Samsung came third with a 17 percent market share and shipped 6.1 million units in the second quarter. On the other hand, Realme was positioned fourth with a 12 percent market share and shipped 4.3 million units.

Furthermore, OPPO, excluding OnePlus, captured an 11 percent market share in the second quarter and shipped 4.2 million units, which made it the fifth top smartphone brand in India, as per the report.

In the second quarter of 2024, the Indian smartphone market was majorly dominated by Chinese smartphone brands, with Xiaomi being at the top. Notably, Xiaomi announced that it has completed a decade in the Indian smartphone market.

The company recently stated that it has shipped over 35 crore devices in the past 10 years, which includes 25 crore smartphones. Furthermore, the company also mentioned that it aims to ship over 70 crore devices in the next 10 years (by 2034).
