WhatsApp has been pushing AI into the app with deeper integration for chats. It recently rolled out a new WhatsApp layout with Meta AI in the search bar. Meta AI also lets you create images based on text prompts that you share with the chatbot. WhatsApp is now working on a shortcut feature that will let you easily send AI-powered images in chats.

WhatsApp shortcut for AI images

  • WhatsApp has started testing a new shortcut to quickly create AI-powered images within an app chat.
  • This feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.12.4 update by WABetaInfo. This update is available in the Google Play Store but it can’t be accessed by beta testers yet.
  • A screenshot of the feature has also been shared in the report. Here, we can see a new button in the attachment menu. This button has the Meta AI ring logo, and it’s called ‘Imagine’.
  • This feature will use Meta AI to create images based on text prompts and other tasks like questioning the chatbot.

It’s not confirmed when the Meta AI shortcut will be available to WhatsApp users. The AI chatbot isn’t available everywhere so it might take some time before reaching all users. In addition to creating AI-powered images, Meta AI can be used to answer queries, fetch videos or simply have a conversation.

To access Meta AI on WhatsApp at present you can type @MetaAI in a chat window and type in your queries. You will be directed to Bing AI for answers to your queries.

The new WhatsApp layout with the Meta AI search bar is yet to reach users in India. It looks like the update is rolling out in a phased manner but soon all WhatsApp users should have easier access to Meta AI. The new feature also shows Meta’s plans to deeply integrate AI in all its products and services.
