As several tech giants, including Google and Apple, are enhancing their voice assistants with new upgrades and advancements, Samsung has confirmed that it will revamp its Bixby with the company’s large language model (LLM) for improved AI features. Notably, Google is transitioning from Google Assistant to Gemini, while Apple has recently announced several AI-powered enhancements for Siri. Here’s what Samsung’s top official said regarding Bixby.

Samsung voice assistant Bixby to be upgraded this year

  • As per a report by CNBC, TM Roh, President and Head of MX business, Samsung Electronics, has said the company will announce the upgraded Bixby in 2024, with its own proprietary LLM.
  • Looks like, with the new upgrade with the help of generative AI, the company plans to enhance its virtual assistant capabilities to understand natural language commands with more accurate responses and offer new features.
  • The new report also mentions the company will offer its users the option to use different voice assistants on Samsung devices, like Google’s own AI assistant alongside Samsung’s Bixby.

“We are going to advance Bixby with application of Gen AI technology,” Roh said.

Samsung’s voice assistant, Bixby, was announced in 2017 with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S8. It lets users make calls, send messages, set reminders, and control device settings by speaking. Moreover, its feature, the Bixby Vision, improves user experience, allowing the device’s camera to offer information about objects or translate text in real-time. It also supports Quick Commands and much more.

A recent report mentioned that the South Korean tech giant will soon upgrade its voice assistant Bixby with ChatGPT-like AI features. However, this is the first official confirmation regarding that. This new upgrade would be a part of the company’s push to promote AI features across its range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and other devices.
