Samsung health sensor upgrades

  • Samsung notes that the Galaxy Watch will feature an updated BioActive Sensor that offers advanced predictive and preventative wellness features.
  • The new BioActive Sensor on the yet-to-be-launched Galaxy Watch will also provide more accurate health measurements compared to the Galaxy Watch 6.
  • The tech giant mentions the new sensor comes with three upgrades – enhancing light-receiving photodiodes, adding more colours of LEDs, and optimising their arrangement.
  • The sensor has been redesigned, which has created additional space for more LEDs and various types, which are now optimally placed across the sensor for better performance.
  • With this, the updated sensor now includes Yellow, Blue, Violet, and Ultraviolet LEDs and an increased number of Red, Green, and Infrared LEDs.
  • Samsung states the allocation of Green, Red, and Infrared LEDs will enhance performance and accuracy in wearable technology.
  • Additionally, it will allow the updated BioActive Sensor to measure health metrics like heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, and sleep quality levels more accurately.
  • Furthermore, the heart rate monitoring during intensive workouts will likely be 30 percent more accurate compared to the predecessor.
  • As per Samsung, the advanced glycation end products (AGEs) index will be introduced as an indicator of metabolic health and biological ageing.
  • There will be more features to it, but the company will likely reveal more about them at the event set for tomorrow.
