For the last few years, Samsung has been launching three models from its S-series: the vanilla model, the Plus model, and the Ultra model. However, the company may only launch the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Ultra in the coming year, possibly excluding the Galaxy S25+ from the lineup. Here’s why we expect this change.
No Samsung Galaxy S25+ on IMEI database
Android Headlines points out how there hasn’t been any record of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus in the IMEI registry. Meanwhile, the regular Galaxy S25 has appeared in the listing with SM-S931B/DS and Galaxy S25 Ultra with model numbers: SM-S938B, SM-S938U, SM-S938N, and SM-S9380. In case you’re wondering, the ‘B’ in that string stands for Global, ‘U’ for USA, and ‘N’ for South Korea.
Unless there’s been some mix-up, we should have seen the Galaxy S25 Plus alongside the other two models in IMEI or any other certification sites.
As for the why, here’s what we think:
Why Samsung may drop Galaxy S25+ in 2025
The Plus has been the lowest-selling variant in the S-series for the last few years.
- The Galaxy S20+ sales (3.5 million) were lower than the S10+ figures (5.1 million) (Source: The Elec).
- The Galaxy S23 sold 8.91 million units, the S23+ sold 4.52 million units, and the S23 Ultra sold 11.63 million units. (Source: Hana Securities)
- Things seemed promising as the Galaxy S24+ sales showed a 52 percent YoY growth over the S23 Plus. (Source: Counterpoint Research)
Even though the Galaxy S24+ sales did better than its predecessor owing to improved specs to price ratio, it was still the lower performing among the S24 series phones. The standard Galaxy S24 had 27 percent sales, Galaxy S24+ had 21 percent sales and the Galaxy S24 Ultra soared at 52 percent sales.
So perhaps the underwhelming sales performances could be a reason to chuck out the Plus model. But, let’s wait and watch what Samsung does.
