Per tipster DigitalChatStation (DCS), the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC features "GPU interpolation technology". If the game's graphics aren't up to the mark, AI will make it clearer or sharper by adding details that it thinks should be there.
The tipster claims the chip can run Genshin Impact at 1080p resolution and 120 FPS frame rate. That's a notable jump from 60 FPS Genshin Impact graphics on the Galaxy S24's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the max settings. AI upscaling makes game graphics look smoother.
The graphics upscaling (along with powerful processors) could also open doors for AAA PC/console-level games, like what we have on the iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone can run titles like Resident Evil 4 remake and Assassin's Creed: Mirage thanks to the A17 Pro's hexa-core GPU. This could elevate the prospects of mobile e-sports gaming.
DCS adds that the AI upscaling feature will come to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor through a firmware update. That means those chips already support the tech on the hardware side. In other words, the Galaxy S24 series and other devices with these chips could also get the feature.
However, the AI frame interpolation feature can have some downsides too:
