Realme GT 7 Pro camera, fingerprint sensor details

Without revealing the exact model’s name, tipster Smart Pikachu (via Weibo) revealed that the Realme GT 7 series phone, likely the upcoming GT 7 Pro, will feature a periscope telephoto camera ensuring higher optical zoom for distant objects. However, the tipster did not reveal the exact sensor size.

Alongside that, the phone is also said to feature an ultrasonic in-display sensor. Ultrasonic fingerprint sensors work by measuring differences between the ridges of a fingerprint rather than the edge, which makes it much more accurate at capturing prints even when fingers are wet. We can expect to see the same reader on the OnePlus 13 and Xiaomi 15 phones as well.

Here are some differences between the ultrasonic and optical fingerprint sensors:

  • Ultrasonic fingerprint sensors apply sound to check a person’s fingerprint. They send high-frequency sound waves at the finger, which bounce back with a detailed 3D fingerprint image. In contrast, optical scanners use light waves to create a 2D fingerprint map.
  • However, sound echoes offer a more reliable fingerprint representation than light reflections, especially if the fingers are moist or wet. This is because sound can bypass surface imperfections or interferences on the finger.
  • Additionally, ultrasonic sensors can detect heart pulses and blood flow, which makes them hard to spoof with an image or dummy. It also allows them to monitor heart rate, BMI, and blood sugar levels. Phone makers can save on extra components if they use this feature.

Realme GT 7 Pro specifications (expected)

Recently, tipster Digital Chat Station mentioned that the upcoming Realme GT 7 Pro will be the first phone to be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, which is yet to be revealed in the fourth quarter of 2024. The upcoming chipset is also expected to power the iQOO 13, OnePlus 13, Xiaomi 15, and Xiaomi 15 Pro.

Realme GT 7 Pro will be launched as the successor of the GT 6 Pro, which hasn’t been unveiled yet. However, Realme’s Vice President Chase Xu recently revealed that the Realme GT 7 Pro will launched in India. It is worth noting that the Realme GT 5 Pro did not arrive in India after the China launch.
