Realme GT 6 vs POCO F6 camera comparison: which flagship killer has better cameras?

The Realme GT 6 (review) and POCO F6 (review) are performance-focused smartphones with Qualcomm’s new 8s Gen 3 chipset. We recently conducted a detailed performance and battery comparison between the CMF Phone 1 and the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite to evaluate which phone reigns supreme in these departments. It is now time to see how these devices compete in a camera comparison.

While the companies are not marketing either of these phones as camera-focused, both of them do feature potent camera systems, with a 50MP primary lens and an 8MP ultrawide shooter at the back. The Realme GT 6, in addition, features a 50MP telephoto lens, which should give it an edge in portrait shots. We’ll be comparing the image outputs of both devices in different scenarios to find out which is the better camera phone between the two.

Here are the detailed camera specifications of both devices:

Daylight

Both phones use their primary 50MP camera to capture daylight images. The images captured by both cameras are quite on par. The Realme GT 6 colours are a bit more saturated compared to the POCO F6, which represents the scene more closely. The devices have a similar level of dynamic range, but the Realme GT 6 has a slightly higher level of detail.

Ultrawide

The POCO F6 has a wider field of view compared to the Realme GT 6, which can be clearly observed from the images below. There’s warping around the edges for both smartphones but the POCO F6’s curve is lower than the Realme GT 6. The latter’s image is sharper and has more punchy colours, while the POCO’s image appears washed out with a slight level of noise. I personally prefer the Realme GT 6’s image compared to the POCO F6.

Winner: Realme GT 6

Portrait

Realme GT 6 also comes with a dedicated 50MP telephoto camera, giving it a slight edge when it comes to portraits. In the images below, you can observe that it delivers a sharper image with better facial details compared to the POCO F6, which fails to manage the exposure level. Both phones do a good job in terms of edge detection, but the Realme GT 6 delivers better skin colour reproduction and overall detail level.

Winner: Realme GT 6

Selfie

For selfies the Realme GT 6 uses a 32MP camera while the POCO F6 uses a 20MP front camera. The Realme GT 6’s images are more vibrant compared to the POCO F6. The facial details, especially the hair and beard are better in the former’s image. While the POCO F6 maintains a more neutral colour profile, it adds a slight red hue to the subject’s skin, while the Realme GT 6’s skin colour is closer to reality.

Winner: Realme GT 6

Low light (night mode off)

In low light conditions and night mode disabled on both phones, the images appear quite different from each other. The POCO F6 has a prominent sepia tone and high contrast, compared to the Realme GT 6 which has a more balanced colour profile, although still slightly boosted. The POCO F6 also outputs a softer image compared to the Realme GT 6. The text appears more legible in the latter’s image.

Winner: Realme GT 6

Low light (night mode on)

With night mode enabled, both phones showcase some improvements in their images, with improved exposure levels and sharper images. Comparing the images, the Realme GT 6 still takes a lead with better clarity. The colours remain consistent, and I personally prefer Realme’s colour reproduction.

Winner: Realme GT 6

Verdict

From the comparison, it is pretty clear that the Realme GT 6 is the better camera phone compared to the POCO F6. While it is priced slightly higher, the smartphone offers a more holistic smartphone experience with a capable processor, excellent battery life, fast charging speed, and a capable camera system.

Cameras are not the POCO F6’s strongest suit, but where it shines instead is its excellent performance output, battery life and charging speed. The phone is also significantly cheaper than the Realme GT 6, so if you’re on a budget and these aspects appeal to you, the smartphone is worth considering.
