Update: The Samsung Galaxy F55 5G launch in India has been postponed from May 17th to May 27th,  in view of spokesperson’s unavailability due to an internal exigency, as communicated by Samsung. Everything else remains on schedule.

May is getting busy and many smartphone launches are to come this week. The Samsung Galaxy F55, iQOO Z9x, and Vivo X100 Ultra are some of the phones that will be debuting in a few days.

Here’s a list of the phone launches in India and across the globe this week:

Phones launching this week

Samsung Galaxy F55

Launch date: May 17th

The Samsung Galaxy F55 will arrive as a successor to the Galaxy F54 and will be sold in India via Flipkart. The teaser images confirm the phone will have a vegan leather back panel, a shift from the usual polycarbonate body of other Samsung mid-rangers. Samsung has also confirmed the price will be under Rs 30,000.

Samsung Galaxy F55 specifications (expected)

  • Display: The Galaxy F55 is expected to sport a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,000 nits peak brightness.
  • Processor: The handset will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC.
  • RAM and storage: 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage options.
  • OS: The phone is likely to boot Android 14-based One UI 6.0 custom skin. 
  • Cameras: Galaxy F55 5G might house a 50MP primary camera with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. There could be a 50MP selfie camera on the front.
  • Battery, charging: The phone is tipped to pack a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.

iQOO Z9x

Launch date: May 16th

iQOO Z9x will join the already launched iQOO Z9. The handset is set to debut in India on May 16th and will be sold via Amazon. The new teaser images have revealed key details about the phone, including the chipset, battery, and fast charging speed. The handset should be priced around the similar range, if not slightly less than the standard iQOO Z9.

  • Display: The iQOO Z9x 5G will have a 6.72-inch Full HD+ display with up to 120Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole cutout.
  • Chipset: It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor with Adreno GPU.
  • RAM+ Storage: Up to 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.
  • Rear camera: The iQOO phone features a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth lens. There could be an 8MP selfie shooter.
  • Battery, charging: The phone houses a 6,000mAh battery with 44W fast charging.
  • Other features: The iQOO Z9x has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an IP64 water and dust resistance rating, a 3.5mm audio jack, and Stereo speakers.

Moto X50 Ultra

Launch date: May 16th

The Moto X50 Ultra will be the brand’s new premium flagship offering and is set to debut on May 16th in China. There are speculations the phone is a rebrand of the Moto Edge 50 Ultra but with more AI features. The images on TENAA certification show a similar design as the Edge 50 Pro.

  • Display: 6.7-inch FHD+ 10-bit OLED display with 2712 x 1220 pixels resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR 10+, DC Dimming, up to 2500 nits peak brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
  • Processor: Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset with Adreno 735 GPU. 
  • RAM/Storage: Up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage.
  • OS: Android 14 OS.
  • Cameras: 50MP primary camera with f/1.6 aperture, OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide lens with a 2.5cm macro option, and a 64MP 3X portrait telephoto camera. There is a 50MP front camera for selfies.
  • Others: Stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Head Tracking, 3 microphones, IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
  • Battery: 4,500mAh battery with 125W TurboPower fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and 5W reverse charging.

Motorola Edge 50 Fusion

Launch date: May 16th

Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is set to launch in India on May 16th. This will be the second Edge 50 phone after the Edge 50 Pro and will arrive as a new mid-range offering. The handset will be sold in the country via Flipkart. Since the handset already debuted globally, we know the complete specifications.

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC paired with Adreno GPU.

  • Cameras: 50MP OIS-enabled main camera, 13MP ultra-wide camera, 32MP front camera.
  • Battery: 5,000mAh battery with 68W TurboPower fast charging support.
  • OS: Android 14-based Hello UI out of the box.

Vivo X100 Ultra, X100s, X100s Pro

Launch date: May 13th

Vivo X100 Ultra, X100s, and Vivo X100s Pro are set to launch in China on May 13th. The new phones will join the existing X100 and X100 Pro. Vivo is betting big on the cameras of the Vivo X100 Ultra as reports suggest it would come with mobile-first camera technology. The Vivo X100s and X100s Pro will also be premium-end models.

  • Display: The Vivo X100 Ultra is tipped to feature a 2K Samsung AMOLED display, curved edges, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a punch-hole cutout.
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC paired with Adreno GPU for graphics.
  • Battery: 5,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging support.
  • Cameras: 200MP periscope telephoto camera housing a Samsung ISOCELL HP9 sensor co-developed by Vivo, a 50MP Sony Lytica LYT-900 primary camera, and a 50MP Sony Kytia LYT-600 ultra-wide camera. There could be a 50MP front camera. 
  • Battery: 5,500mAh battery, 80W wired and 30W wireless charging.

Vivo X100s and X100s Pro

  • Display: Vivo X100s and X100s Pro are tipped to feature a 1.5K display by Visionox with a punch-hole cutout, flat edges, and 120Hz refresh rate.
  • Processor: The phones will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ SoC with Vivo’s V2 imaging chip on the X100s and V3 chip on the X100s Pro.
  • Battery: The Vivo X100s will have a 5,100mAh battery with 100W wired fast charging. The X100s Pro will pack a 5,400mAh battery with 100W wired fast charging and 30W wireless charging.
  • OS: Both phones are likely to boot Android 14 OS out of the box.
  • RAM/storage: Up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.
