PC Mark

We ran the PCMark battery test to get a good idea about phones’ battery backup in optimal conditions. This benchmark test evaluates the time it takes for a smartphone’s battery to drop to 20 percent from 100 percent capacity. We adjusted brightness and audio levels to 50 percent.

As expected, the iQOO 12 with a bigger battery lasted for longer (14 hours and 14 minutes) before dropping to 20 percent. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra lasted 13 hours and 27 minutes before its battery dropped to 20 percent.

Winner: iQOO 12

YouTube video streaming

The next test involved playing a high-res video on YouTube for 30 minutes. For a fair contest, we kept phone settings similar – 50 percent audio and brightness.

After 30 minutes, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra consumed 5 percent battery, whereas the iQOO 12’s battery dropped by 4 percent. In absolute terms, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra consumed a 225mAh battery, and the iQOO 12 consumed 200mAh battery. The latter emerged as more power efficient in our YouTube video streaming test.

Winner: iQOO 12

Gaming test

We’re talking about two extremely capable phones, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that both smartphones are capable of running demanding titles, including BGMI and Call of Duty at the highest settings possible. Our gaming test also involved Real Racing 3. We played all three games for 30 minutes each.

At the end of the entire gaming session, the average battery drop recorded on the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra was 6.6 percent, while the average battery drop on the iQOO 12 was 8 percent. In absolute terms, the Motorola phone consumed 297mAh of battery, while the iQOO 12’s battery dropped by 400mAh.

The iQOO 12, however, managed thermals more efficiently in our gaming tests. After 30 minutes of COD playtime, the Edge 50 Ultra’s and OnePlus 12R’s internal temperature rose by 6.2 degrees Celsius and 5.4 degrees Celcius, respectively.

Winner: Tie

Charging

As mentioned earlier, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra has 125W charging support, while the iQOO 12 supports 120W charging. While the iQOO 12 lacks wireless charging support, the Edge 50 Ultra offers up to 50W wireless charging.

As expected, the Edge 50 Ultra took less time (15 minutes) to fully charge the smartphone from 20 percent. The iQOO 12 took 26 minutes in our charging test to attain a full charge from 20 percent.

Winner: Motorola Edge 50 Ultra

Verdict

In our battery comparison, the iQOO 12 emerged as the winner, thanks to its long-lasting power backup, efficiency, and thermal performance. This does not mean the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra did not perform well, as the handset offered faster charging speeds and better battery performance while playing demanding games. However, the iQOO 12 had a slight edge overall.
