Motorola Edge 50 Ultra vs Motorola Edge 50 Pro: design

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra Design

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra and Edge 50 have identical designs but different colour options, dimensions, and weights. They both feature a triple camera setup tucked on a square island in the top-left corner of the rear. Moreover, both devices have a curved screen with a punch-hole cutout for the front camera at the top centre.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro Design

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra comes in Peach Fuzz, Nordic Wood, and Forest Grey colour options. On the other hand, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro comes in four shades: Luxe Lavender, Black Beauty, Moonlight Pearl, and Vanilla Cream. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is slightly heavier and thicker than the Motorola Edge 50 Pro.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra vs Motorola Edge 50 Pro: display

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra Display

Both Motorola Edge 50 Ultra and Edge 50 Pro offer impressive displays with similar core specifications, such as size, resolution, and refresh rate. However, the Edge 50 Ultra stands out with its higher peak brightness of 2500 nits, ensuring better visibility in a sunny environment, and the use of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for better durability.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro Display

The Edge 50 Pro, while slightly less bright and not as tough as the Ultra, still provides a high-quality display experience with the same pOLED technology and 144Hz refresh rate.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra vs Motorola Edge 50 Pro: performance

While we’re yet to test the performance of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, we recently reviewed the Xiaomi 14 Civi which comes with the same chipset as the Edge 50 Ultra. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra will outshine the Edge 50 Pro in raw performance, thanks to its more powerful chipset. The performance difference is also pretty evident in both Antutu and Geekbench benchmarks of both devices.

However, the Edge 50 Pro still offers respectable performance that is suitable for everyday tasks and moderate to heavy usage scenarios.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra vs Motorola Edge 50 Pro: cameras

The Edge 50 Pro, while equipped with competent cameras, lags behind the Ultra in terms of telephoto and ultrawide capabilities, as well as video recording frame rates. It still provides a good camera experience with its 50MP primary and selfie cameras. During our time with the Edge 50 Pro, we were impressed by the remarkable camera quality of the device.

However, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra offers a better camera setup compared to the Edge 50 Pro, making it a better choice if photography is your priority.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra vs Motorola Edge 50 Pro: battery and charging

When it comes to battery life and charging features, there is no distinction between the two phones with the same 4,500mAh battery, 125W wired, 50W wireless, and 10W reverse charging. You will benefit from rapid charging speeds and options, regardless of which device you choose.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra vs Motorola Edge 50 Pro: software

The Motorola Edge 50 Ulta and Edge 50 Pro run on Android 14-based Hello UI out of the box. They feature minimal pre-installed apps, maintaining a clean user experience. Thus, you will get a similar software experience from both devices. Besides this, the company promises three years of OS updates and four years of security patches with both devices.

Verdict

Both Motorola Edge 50 Ultra and Edge 50 Pro pack remarkable and almost identical hardware specifications under the hood. However, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra offers better performance and camera setup but costs significantly more than the Edge 50 Pro.

On the other hand, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro offers the same display, battery, selfie camera, and software experience as the Edge 50 Ultra at a much affordable price. Thus, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is more value for money than its elder sibling.
