iPhone users will soon be able to create custom emojis with AI; feature coming with iOS 18

Highlights
  • iOS 18 is set to get a host of new AI features.
  • One of these is said to be the ability to create custom emojis with AI.
  • iOS 18 will be unveiled at WWDC 2024 next month.

iOS 18 release is still a few months away but we’ll get a preview of all the new features at WWDC next month. The new iPhone software update is expected to bring a host of new features with a deep focus on AI. Speaking of which, one feature that will definitely make all iPhone users happy is the ability to create custom emojis. This feature will be powered by AI so it won’t require much work from users.

iOS 18 to let you create custom emojis with AI

  • Apple is working on software that will let users create custom emojis easily, according to the latest Power On newsletter by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
  • These emojis will be created based on what the users are texting, the report added. So AI will do the work here and create emojis of just about any expression or feeling.
  • It’s not clear how exactly the feature will work but it might show emoji suggestions as you’re typing out on the iPhone. One similar example could be Snapchat’s emojis which are created immediately based on the chat.
  • Apple already introduces new emojis with every iOS update but the ability to create custom emojis would mean no more waiting.

As mentioned above, AI is going to be key at Apple’s WWDC 2024. According to Gurman, Apple is planning to introduce a new strategy called “Project Greymatter” that includes a set of AI tools deeply integrated into core apps like Safari, Photos, and Notes. The new AI features will be added to iOS 18 and macOS 15 as well.

Some new AI features that are expected include transcribing voice memos, editing photos, and faster search results with Spotlight. Siri is also getting an AI makeover as it will be able to have more natural conversations with users. Google has already taken the lead with Gemini AI, and now it’s Apple’s turn to catch up.
