The iPhone 16 series is expected to debut at the hardware event in September this year. Like last year, there will be multiple models in the series. While there have been rumours regarding the chipset and camera improvement, not much noise is heard regarding the charging speeds. That changes today as the latest rumours coming from China suggest the Pro variants will see significant improvements this time around.
iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max charging speeds
- According to the latest ITHome report, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will support 40W wired charging and 20W MagSafe wireless charging.
- This is a jump from up to 27W wired and 15W wireless MagSafe charging support on the current iPhone 15 Pro models.
- Do note that the 40W and 20W could be peak charging speeds and may not be achieved constantly.
- If true, this is a big jump and should considerably lower the charging times of the iPhones.
- Charging speeds/time have been a major concern for users considering Android phones offer a significant 120W wired and 50W wireless charging speed in comparison.
The source also points out that the higher charging speeds upgrade will balance out the increase in battery capacity on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. This means that Apple wants the iPhones to charge at least as fast as their predecessors despite the bigger battery cells.
These new rumours reiterate earlier rumours which mentioned the exact charging speeds. This also said that new iPhones will use stacked battery technology that allows for higher capacities and longer lifespans. Apple never officially reveals the battery details in specific but with two major upgrades this year, the company is bound to speak a word or two about the changes.
