iOS 17.1 update released: how to install

  • iOS 17.1 has been released, and it can be installed on all compatible devices. On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update, and install iOS 17.1.
  • Talking about what’s new in iOS 17.1, one major improvement is a fix for the iPhone 12 radiation issue in France. The French government banned sales of the iPhone 12 following tests resulting in the device exceeding permissible radiation levels. Apple had already confirmed it will fix this by turning off a feature that interfered with the iPhone 12’s radiation level.
  • As for the new features, iOS 17.1 brings the ability to continue sending files over AirDrop even if the Wi-Fi connectivity is lost. If two iPhones are transferring data over AirDrop, the process won’t stop even if there’s no Wi-Fi connectivity as it will continue over cellular data.
  • Apple introduced StandBy mode with iOS 17, a feature that turns your iPhone into an always-on display. With iOS 17.1, you can now turn StandBy mode off after 20 seconds, never or ‘Automatically’, which will turn the feature off when your iPhone is not in use or when it’s in a dark room.
  • iOS 17.1 also brings a new ‘Favourites’ feature to Apple Music. This feature lets you quickly add songs to your Favourites list. You can do this by tapping on a star button that appears near the song’s title. You can also find this list easily by tapping on the top-right corner of the Apple Music app, and selecting ‘Favorited’.

Apple also released the iPadOS 17.1 and watchOS 10.1 updates along with iOS 17.1. All three updates are available to download and install on all compatible devices.
