Infinix GT 20 Pro vs Nothing Phone (2a) battery comparison: a close contest

The Infinix GT 20 Pro (review) is one of the most capable mid-range smartphones. It was launched recently in India at a starting price of Rs 24,999. We recently conducted a performance comparison between the Infinix GT 20 Pro and the Nothing Phone (2a) (review). Since both phones have similar battery specifications, we’ll now be conducting a battery comparison to gauge which device offers better battery life. 

Here are the battery specifications of both smartphones:

For our comparison, we’re using the top RAM and storage variants of both these smartphones. 

PCMark test

The PCMark battery test gauges the time it takes for a smartphone’s battery to drop under 20 percent from 100 percent capacity. The Infinix GT 20 Pro logged 9 hours and 13 minutes on the test, while the Nothing Phone (2a) clocked 14 hours and 13 minutes on the benchmark test. The results suggest that the Nothing Phone (2a) is more likely to deliver a better battery life.

Winner: Nothing Phone (2a) 

Video streaming test

For the video streaming test, we played the same Youtube video on both devices at 50 percent volume and brightness level for 30 minutes each to gauge their battery drain. At the end of the test, the Infinix GT 20 Pro’s battery dropped 5 percent, while the Nothing Phone (2a) dropped 3 percent. The latter wins the video streaming test.

Winner: Nothing Phone (2a) 

Gaming test

Next, we played BGMI, COD: Mobile, and Real Racing 3 for 30 minutes each on each device at similar graphical settings to gauge their battery drain. At the end of the test, the Infinix GT 20 Pro logged an aggregate battery drain of 21 percent (7 percent average), while the Nothing Phone (2a) registered an aggregate drain of 22 percent (7.3 percent average). The Infinix GT 20 clinched victory in the gaming test. 

Winner: Infinix GT 20 Pro 

Charging speed

Both the phones come with similar 45W fast charging support, but their charge times vary slightly. The Infinix GT 20 Pro takes 48 minutes to recharge completely from 20 percent to 100 percent battery capacity, while the Nothing Phone (2a) takes 56 minutes in comparison. The Infinix GT 20 Pro recharges roughly 15 percent faster compared to the Nothing Phone (2a) and wins this round. 

Winner: Infinix GT 20 Pro 

Verdict

The battery comparison ends in a rare tie, with Infinix GT 20 Pro and Nothing Phone (2a) both performing better in certain aspects. The Nothing Phone (2a) performs better in the PCMark benchmark and video streaming test, whereas the Infinix GT 20 Pro excels in battery performance during gaming and has a comparatively faster charging speed. 

If you prefer faster charging speeds and frequently game on your smartphone, the Infinix GT 20 Pro is the better choice due to its battery optimisation and performance capabilities in these areas. On the other hand, the Nothing Phone (2a) is more suitable for regular users who value a well-rounded smartphone experience, stock Android UI, and a unique design.
