HMD rebrands the Nokia XR21 rugged phone: price hiked considerably but specs are the same

Nokia parent HMD has announced the HMD XR21 rugged phone and HMD T21 tablet globally. The former is a rebrand of the Nokia XR21, which was originally launched last year. The phone retains the same design and specifications as the original model but now comes with an HMD logo, but there’s a glaring difference in price.

HMD XR21 and HMD T21 prices

The HMD XR21 is priced at £499.99 (approx Rs 52,700) for the single 6GB + 128GB model. The handset comes in Midnight Black colour. In Europe, the HMD XR21 is priced at EUR 600, which is amusing considering that Nokia XR21 is 200 Euros cheaper with the same specs.

The HMD T21 is priced at £229.99 (around Rs 24,300) for the base model. The products will be on sale in several European and UK countries.

The HMD XR21 has the same 6.49-inch FHD+ display with a 20:9 aspect ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, and up to 550 nits brightness. Powering the phone is the dated Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset paired with Adeno 619L GPU for graphics. The chipset is paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The handset boots Android 13 OS and will receive 2 major OS upgrades.

In terms of cameras, the HMD XR21 features a 64MP primary camera and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. There’s Corning Gorilla Glass with DX+. We get a 16MP shooter on the front for selfies and video chats. The phone packs a 4,800mAh battery with 33W fast charging support. The phone comes with an IP68/IP69K rating, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and stereo speakers.

The HMD T21 tablet has a large 10.36-inch 2K display with 1200 X 1200 pixels resolution, SGS Low Blue Light Certification, 360nits typical brightness, active pen, Widevine L1 for HD streaming, toughened glass layer, and 5:3 aspect ratio.

The tablet is powered by the Unisoc T612 chipset paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage. The tablet boots Android 13 OS and will receive 2 major OS upgrades. The HMD T21 tablet has an 8MP shooter both on the front and back. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, 3.5mm audio jack, and dual-band Wi-Fi. The tablet packs an 8,200mAh battery with 18W fast charging support.
