Update: We have added the Pixel Watch 3 cellular version’s IMDA listing.
Original story continues…
Google Pixel Watch 3 is expected to launch next month and ahead of it, as is the tradition with any Pixel product, the Pixel Watch 3 specifications and other details are repeatedly surfacing online. Earlier today, we learned about the watch’s display, battery, colours, and connectivity options. Well, 91mobiles has now spotted the Pixel Watch 3 on Singapore’s IMDA website. This confirms some of those connectivity details.
Google Pixel Watch 3 IMDA listing confirms UWB support
- Pixel Watch 3 (Bluetooth version) has appeared on the IMDA site with the GG3HH model number. The Cellular version has the model number GBDU9.
- The Google Watch sports wireless connectivity solutions like Ultra-wideband (UWB), Wi-Fi 6 (abgn,ac+ax), and Bluetooth (version unspecified).
So, like the FCC sighting, this certification also corroborates the speculation that Pixel Watch 3 has UWB support. Here’s why that matters.
How UWB can be useful in Pixel Watch 3
- The UWB, for the uninitiated, is a radio-wave technology that works in short-range but can carry high bandwidth communication while consuming low power. It allows for accurate and real-time location tracking or navigational positioning. This is also considered more secure and stable than Bluetooth LE connection.
- A recent Find My Device app’s APK teardown revealed Google is adding UWB to the app.
- This could mean that Google may let you track the location of the Pixel Watch 3 using its Find My Device service. So, you could find the watch if it is lost or misplaced.
- Another use case could be the ability to unlock a compatible car using the Digital Car Key feature. Car companies like Hyundai, Kia, and BMW already support UWB-based Digital Car Key. So, you may be able to unlock supported cars with a Pixel Watch 3, thanks to UWB.
In the earlier report, we learned the Pixel Watch 3 could also feature cellular capability, and compared to the Pixel Watch 2, a larger 45mm dial option, thinner bezels, up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness, a bigger battery size, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 SoC at the heart.
