Galaxy Ring features revealed in Samsung Health APK teardown ahead of its launch

Highlights
  • Samsung Galaxy Ring features more than basic heart rate and sleep tracking.
  • Some of these Ring features are available in Galaxy watches too.
  • The audio recordings taken by the Samsung Health app for certain features will be auto-deleted after a set period.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Ring at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10th. Ahead of the event, the APK teardown of the Samsung Health app has disclosed some of the Ring’s likely health features. Let’s see what these Galaxy Ring features are if they differ from what the Galaxy smartwatches offer.

Galaxy Ring features within the Samsung Health app

Android Authority has dug deep into the Samsung Health app and activated certain features of the Galaxy Ring. Yes, the Ring isn’t out yet and we don’t know about the unpacked Samsung Health APK’s version. However, an APK teardown like this spills features that may be added to the app for future products or product versions. Be that as it may, here are the Galaxy Ring features revealed by the Health app:

  • Stress monitoring: Perhaps, the Samsung ring could check the Electrodermal Activity (EDA), skin temperature, activity (restlessness or fidgeting) levels, and heart rate variability to track your stress levels.
  • Heart rate tracking: The ring may have optical sensors to check the pulse (expansion and contraction of blood vessels) in the finger area.

  • Period monitoring: The screenshots shared by the publication reveal the Ring supports Period tracking using skin temperature analysis. You can figure out the ovulation cycle and predict future menstrual and fertile windows.
  • Snore detection: Like the Galaxy smartwatches, the Galaxy Ring will detect snoring during the night as long as you keep the phone charging nearby. You will be able to set Snore detection to run always or for one sleep session. The app will seek your permission to record audio and save the recording with time stamps. You can set the app to delete these audio recordings after a set period of days.

The Galaxy Watch 6 series and the previous few editions already have these tracking features. However since the Galaxy Ring won’t only be worn closer to your body but also for longer hours compared to a watch, it should be better able to access and analyze the health metrics. Now, how well these features work will be put to the test when the Ring finally launches.
