Nothing’s new CMF Phone 1 (review) is designed for budget-conscious customers, but that doesn’t mean the smartphone has an easy road ahead. Being an online-focused smartphone, the CMF Phone 1 faces stiff competition from OnePlus, which is among the dominant brands on e-commerce platforms. Similar to the CMF Phone 1, OnePlus launched the Nord CE4 Lite (review) in the sub-Rs 20K category recently.
The two smartphones’ similarities include dual cameras on the back and an AMOLED display with Full-HD+ resolution. However, there’s a stark difference in the battery department. The CMF Phone 1 comes with a 5,000mAh battery with 33W charging. The OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite packs a much bigger 5,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging. Both smartphones offer reverse wired charging but lack wireless charging – a common practice among OEMs in this range.
Purely based on the battery performance, how do the two smartphones fare? Here’s a detailed comparison.

PCMark test
PCMark’s battery test provides a decent insight into the smartphone’s ideal battery backup in the most optimal condition. We adjusted the CMF Phone 1 and Nord CE4 Lite’s brightness and audio level at a similar range for a fair contest. We also enabled flight mode on both smartphones at the start of the test.
Based on the numbers, one would have presumed that the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite will have an easy win against the Nothing CMF Phone 1. However, the former could run PCMark’s battery test for 11 hours and 32 minutes before its battery dropped from 100 to 20 percent. The CMF Phone 1, on the other hand, lasted 15 hours and 11 minutes in the same test.

YouTube Video test
In the synthetic benchmark, the CMF Phone 1 was ahead of the Nord CE4 Lite. Our next test involves playing a YouTube video for 30 minutes on both smartphones. Again, we ensured similar brightness and audio levels. Additionally, the playback quality on the two was the same.
At the end of the round, we observed a 3 percent battery drop on CMF Phone 1 and OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite. However, in absolute terms, the former consumed less battery (150mAh) than the latter (165mAh).

Gaming
For our gaming test, we played three titles, including Battlegrounds Mobile India, Call of Duty, and Real Racing 3, on both smartphones for 30 minutes each. For our battery performance test, we are considering the average battery drop results.
We observed an average battery drop of 7 percent on the CMF Phone 1 and 6 percent on the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite. In absolute terms, the average battery drop stood at 350mAh and 330mAh, respectively.
Finally, there’s a respite for the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite at the end of the gaming test.

Charging
The OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite continued its winning streak in the charging test. Its 80W charging for the 5,500mAh battery was superior in our test.
The Nord CE4 Lite took 50 minutes to charge from 20 to 100 percent, while the CMF Phone 1 took a little over an hour to reach full charge. Users must also note that the CMF Phone 1 does not include the charger in the box; the company’s official 45W PD adapter is available to purchase for Rs 1,994 on Flipkart. OnePlus continues to provide chargers in the box.
Winner: OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite
Verdict
There’s a tie between the two smartphones based on our tests. However, readers must note that the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite supports faster charging, which matters to many customers. A larger battery on board may also take a longer time to deteriorate.
