Xiaomi 14 Civi

The Xiaomi 14 Civi’s Leica-partnered rear camera system features a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The primary camera captures vibrant, social media-ready photos with good dynamic range, although both Leica Authentic and Leica Vibrant modes tend to produce saturated colours.

The telephoto lens excels in portrait shots, offering modes like 35mm Documentary, 50mm Swirly Bokeh, and 90mm Soft Focus. However, it struggles in low light without OIS. The phone also includes dual 32MP front cameras, with the primary delivering sharp selfies and natural skin tones, while the wide-angle lens can wash out colours.

Pros

Cons

Excellent daylight performance

Average low-light performance

Leica features

Inconsistent colour reproduction

Impressive dynamic range

Other specifications:

Display: 6.55-inch 1.5K LTPO 120Hz AMOLED panel

SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3

RAM, storage: Up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage

Battery, charging: 4,700mAh battery with 67W charging

Google Pixel 7

The Google Pixel 7 is close to two years old now, and its hardware won’t hold up as well as some of the other phones on this list, but it has a remarkable camera setup. The Pixel 7 features a dual camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. It also has a 10.8MP front camera for selfies.

The main camera captures highly detailed and authentic-coloured photos with impressive bokeh effects and good dynamic range, though it may showcase some noise while exposing shadows. By cropping from the main sensor, the device can also take high-quality 2x zoom photos.

The ultra-wide camera maintains excellent sharpness and detail, while the nightscape mode enhances low-light images despite some noticeable noise. The front camera produces stunning selfies with accurate skin tones and compelling portrait mode bokeh.

Pros

Cons

Exllenet dynamic range

Noise in low-light conditions

Good ultra-wide performance

No dedicated telephoto lens

Other specifications:

Display: 6.3-inch FHD+ 90Hz AMOLED panel

SoC: Google Tensor G2

RAM, storage: 8GB RAM and 128GB storage

Battery, charging: 4,355mAh battery with 20W wired, 20W wireless charging

Vivo V30 Pro

The Vivo V30 Pro features a 50MP front camera and three 50MP rear cameras, offering several camera presets with Zeiss. The default natural colour mode can appear slightly cool, but the vivid mode is available for more saturated images. Moreover, you can use the Zeiss mode to add depth to shadows in pictures.

The primary and ultra-wide cameras deliver good white balance and dynamic range, although an oil-painting-like effect can sometimes appear in pictures. In low light, the camera performance of the Vivo V30 Pro is solid overall. The portrait camera with 2x zoom has consistent colours but inconsistent edge detection. The front camera captures accurate skin tones and offers 2x zoom.

Pros

Cons

Solid low-light performance

Cool colour tendency

Good white balance

Inconsistent edge detection

Zeiss presets

Other specifications:

Display: 6.78-inch 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED panel

SoC: MediaTek Dimensity 8200

RAM, storage: Up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage

Battery, charging: 5,000mAh battery with 80W charging

Nothing Phone (2)

Like the Google Pixel 7, the Nothing Phone (2) is also slightly outdated compared to the other options on the list. However, its camera performance can still surprise you. The Phone (2) features a 50MP main camera with OIS, EIS, and Advanced HDR, which captures eight frames with different exposures. It also has a 50MP ultra-wide sensor and a 32MP front camera.

The camera produces vibrant, high-saturation images, particularly in daylight, with good night mode performance. However, it struggles with dynamic range in scenes with different light conditions and shadows, resulting in flat images. In good lighting, portrait and selfie shots are pleasing. Overall, it’s a capable camera system that could benefit from some refinements.

Pros

Cons

Advanced HDR

Dynamic range issues

Decent low-light performance

Over-saturation

Other specifications:

Display: 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz LTPO AMOLED panel

SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

RAM, storage: Up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage

Battery, charging: 4,700mAh battery with 45W wired, 15W wireless charging

Motorola Edge 50 Pro

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro features a 50MP primary camera with OIS, a 13MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP 3x telephoto lens. These cameras, validated by Pantone for accurate skin tone capture, perform well in well-lit environments, delivering detailed and sharp images with a solid dynamic range.

However, default colour settings are slightly boosted with high contrast, and switching to the 3x telephoto lens results in colour shifts and less sharpness. The ultra-wide lens provides good images with minor edge distortion. In low light, the primary camera handles details and exposure well. However, the 50MP selfie camera sometimes overexposes selfies but maintains a good amount of facial detail.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro Design

Pros

Cons

Remarkable low-light performance

Inconsistent macro performance

Solid dynamic range

Selfie camera overexposure

Other specifications:

Display: 6.7-inch 1.5K 144Hz pOLED panel

SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3

RAM, storage: Up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage

Battery, charging: 4,500mAh battery with 125W wired, 50W wireless charging
