A new AndroidHeadlines report shares a snapshot of the ASUS ROG Phone 9 and ROG Phone 9 Pro on the IMEI database.
We also see the ASUSAI2501C model number, which suggests the phones will launch in China and perhaps India. We could see this string of letters again in the months leading up to the ROG Phone 9 series launch.
This is earlier than when the ROG Phone 8 series appeared on the IMEI website with the model number ASUS_AI2401_A.
The report also speculates that the ROG Phone 9 could run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. Its predecessor had a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC inside. The new chip is rumoured to come with TSMC's 3nm architecture, Nuvia's 2+6 design, and up to 4.2GHz clock speed. So, the ROG Phone 9 lineup could be more powerful and power efficient.
The phones could also benefit from a new in-house cooling solution that could keep the temperatures in check during a long gaming session. Meanwhile, the current-gen ROG phones have a clip-on cooler that claims to cool the device by as much as 26 degrees Celsius.
For hardcore gamers, the ROG Phone 9 could offer AirTriggers, which is already available on previous ROG phones. These would be dedicated buttons for more accurate controls. Moreover, you could also get RGB lights for a visual flair. The ROG Phone 8 series also has the Aura RGB logo and a Mini-LED 341-element display. Let's see how ASUS improves this on the new lineup.
The publication expects the ROG Phone 9 series to launch sometime in Q1 2025. It doesn't have more precise information at this point. But, it is possible since the ROG Phone 8 series also launched in January 2024.
