New Apple MacBooks incoming
- In a tweet, Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO Ross Young said panel shipments for new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will begin in the third quarter of 2024.
- This suggests the launch of the products will happen towards the end of the year, like last year’s models.
- For those unaware, the M4 chipset debuted on the new iPad Pro model recently but the first Mac model will only debut later year.
- The Apple M4 features up to 10-core CPU: with up to four performance and six efficiency cores.
- Apple says the new chipset is 50 percent faster than the in-house M2 SoC.
On similar lines, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that Apple will refresh both the MacBook Pro and Mac mini lineup this year. The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro is expected to be powered by the M4 chip, while the 14-inch and 16-inch variants are expected to arrive with M4 Pro and M4 Max chipsets, respectively. The Mac mini will receive M4 and M4 Pro chipsets. The MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro models won’t come with the M4 chips, at least not until 2025. It is also not clear when Apple will refresh the iMac with the new chipset.
The new Apple M4 chip is built on an upgraded second-generation 3nm node and the Geekbench 6 results showed it is 25 percent faster than the M3 chip when it comes to multi-core performance. This paints a picture of how powerful the Apple M4 Pro and M4 Max chips are going to be. Besides the chipset upgrade, the MacBook Pro models are expected to come with some notable improvements.
