First adult character film role for Nicole Kidman whose previous film credits had been in family or teen movies such as Bush Christmas (1983), BMX Bandits (1983) and Wills & Burke (1985). All these three films had had an Australian classification rating of "PG" or "G". As such, this movie was the first time that Kidman appeared in a movie with a higher classification rating which was an "M" (recommended for ages 15+).
The wind-surfing 360° loop jump performed in this movie was not actually done during production filming. It was created out of editing footage which included a shot of a wind-surfing spiral arc jump less than 360 degrees.
Actor Tom Burlinson did most of his wind-surfing sequences himself.
Scenes showing Nicole Kidman sing in this movie (Kidman plays a singer called Jade) were lypsynched by the actress. Kidman is not actually singing in these scenes, it is not her voice.
The house on the cliff by the sea seen in the film and belonging to Stewart 'P.C.' Simpson was not a real house. The building was a pre-fabricated home constructed especially for use in this film. According to the audio commentary, the house was actually first constructed in the wrong location and had to be rebuilt in the right filming locale. Interiors of the house seen in the film were not shot there but in a studio in Perth.
"Jade: Since when does P.C. Simpson take "no" for an answer? P. C. Simpson: Will you stay the night with me? Jade: No."
"P. C. Simpson: I guess that's why I find you so gosh darn compelling. [he creeps up behind her] Miss Dodge: [without turning round] Touch me - and I'll rupture your spleen, Mr. Simpson."
