The animated segment is based on the poem, 'Ash Wednesday', by T.S. Eliot.

The music in the segment "Defender" is written by Steve Francis and based on music by Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych (credited as Leontovych).

Justin Monjo (who wrote the "Sand" and "Acquifer" segments) previously co-wrote a stage adaptation of Cloudstreet, which is also based on a book by Tim Winton.

Premiered at the 2013 Melbourne Film Festival.
