This film was expanded from Stephen Fingleton's 2014 short film "Magpie" which had a similar cast except for Olivia Williams in the role of the old woman. It also used the same opening graphic to explain the apocalypse.
"[last lines] Milja: [waiting outside gate of settlement] What happens now? Watchwoman: They'll be taking a vote. Shouldn't be long. When are you due? Milja: Six months - I think. Watchwoman: Do you know what'll you call it? Milja: If it's a boy..."
"[first lines] Kathryn: [appearing outside his shack] My name is Kathryn. And this is my daughter Milja. Would you be able to spare some of your crop? Survivalist: [no] Kathryn: We can offer something in exchange. [shows seeds] Kathryn: A real treasure, then. We have legumes, rusticas, strong varieties. These could boost your yield. [tosses over a package of seeds] Kathryn: Surely you can spare something. There's more than enough. Survivalist: That's what they all thought. Kathryn: Well, then perhaps... Perhaps, we could stay the night."
