The brothers Dave and Jase were played by real life brothers David and Jason Benham. In 2014, HGTV dropped a reality TV program that the brothers were going to host because of their conservative Christian views on LGBT issues.
Initially, the Motion Picture Association of America gave the film an R rating. Writer and producer Dr. J.P. Johnston appealed the decision, arguing that the film was family friendly despite the violent content. After the MPAA upheld its ruling, the movie was edited to omit some of the violent imagery. As a result, it was given a PG-13 rating.
Based on a novel by the same name that was released in 2017 by Ambassador International, a Christian fiction publisher.
In 2017, to help promote the movie, the filmmakers gave away an AR-15 rifle in a gun raffle also meant to encourage responsible firearms ownership. In August 2018, they held another gun raffle featuring three of the firearms used in the movie.
J.P. Johnston, who produced the film and authored the book on which it was based, is married to Elizabeth Johnston, a popular conservative Christian social media personality known as the "Activist Mommy." Other members of the Johnston family had small roles in this film.
"Rick: Take care of my salt!"
"Sophie: We're not gonna lose faith and make a decision based on fear, a fear of a godless future that doesn't even exist. Vengeance belongs to God, not us."
