Six out of the eight pigs featured in this film were female, because it was thought that the sight of male pigs' genitals was not suitable for family viewing. The male pigs were only shot from the front.
In an interview at the time of the film's first screening, Kevin Whately said that he had to step in at short notice. The reason he gave was that Alan Rickman had been set to play Wolf, but his work on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) overran. However, the film's producers say that Rickman, though he was on a list of names, never agreed at any point to be involved.
In real life, Butch was female (a sow) and Sundance was male (a boar). In this film, it's the other way around.
