TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

As with his previous films Cold Mountain (2003) and Michael Collins (1996), this film shows actor Brendan Gleeson genuine fiddle playing skills.

Of the three leads, Gordon Pinsent is the only one who actually hails from Newfoundland. Mark Critch is also from Newfoundland.

Peter Keleghan and Gordon Pinsent had both previously starred in the Canadian comedy series The Red Green Show (1991).

Remake of La grande séduction. Quebecer film.

Released ten years since director Don McKellar's previous film, Childstar (2004).

Popular Dialogues

"Dr. Lewis: So, uh, I been drinkin'. Kathleen: That's exactly what a girl wants to hear when a stranger knocks on her door in the middle of the night. Dr. Lewis: Well, I... I asked where you lived. So, I just... I just wanted to apologize. Kathleen: At ten o'clock? Dr. Lewis: What, is there some kind of curfew here for apologies?"

"Murray French: Yeah, well, the truth is, it's been years since the fishing dried up here. Years! We line up every month and collect welfare checks. You ever collect welfare, Paul? Well, you collect more than your money, let me tell you that much. You collect shame. You collect a good deal of shame. Money only lasts fifteen days, but you get enough shame to last a whole month - and it's killin' us."
