The Crossover is an eight-episode family basketball drama on Disney+ from LeBron James' production company, SpringHill. While it may not be a direct declaration of greatness, the series has wide-ranging ambition that goes beyond shows targeting a comparably young demographic. The story follows twin brothers, Josh and J.B. Bell, torn between athletic and academic aspirations as they near high school. Josh has been charting a course for the NBA, while J.B. may find his true passion in art. However, just as the family deals with present-day struggles, episodes are bookended by chapters from the future. By 2030 and 2031, one of the Bell boys has become a star for the Lakers, but there are ominous hints of future tragedy. The Crossover generates some satisfying emotional beats, blends its coming-of-age and adult storylines well, and has a likably distinctive overall voice. While it may not quite achieve the heights of some of its predecessors, it is an enjoyable watch for those looking for a family drama with a basketball twist.
