Documentary | 2017 | Sadie
Best Feature | 2017 | Sadie
When actress Sadie Katz was asked why she decided to direct and make this movie, she said, "Well, I was doing a lot of films and a lot of nudity and kinda just like, fucking around, and I wanted to do something that was sweet, too. Something that might make money, as well. And everyone was like, 'Oh, you should make a horror film,' and I was going through a rough time, I was up late at night, and I was going through a breakup, and I was really depressed, and I kept bringing up stories about Bill Murray. Then I was like, 'fuck, I wanna do a kind of lighthearted documentary, like My Date With Drew' but with Bill Murray."
It took Sadie Katz four years to make this documentary: A year and a half of shooting, a year in editing, and another year in deliveries and film festivals.
Actress Sadie Katz said that since she was nude in several erotic thrillers and horror films before she decided to direct this documentary, potential investors kept asking her if she was going to show her boobs in it. She told them no so they passed on investing.
First-time director Sadie Katz said she was having trouble finding investors. She finally went to a wealthy lover she was in the process of breaking up with and convinced him to do it by saying, "This will give me a boost to get on with my life and stop hating your fucking guts!"
