TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Though she was in her early sixties, Judi Dench cites this as the movie that really launched her career.

Finty Williams is the daughter of Judi Dench. Princess Helena was one of Queen Victoria's five daughters.

This is one of two movies in consecutive years in which Judi Dench played a historic English Queen. She played Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love (1998). The same actresses played the Queen's Ladies in Waiting in both movies.

During filming, Gerard Butler saved a young boy from drowning in the river Tay. The Royal Humane Society gave him a "Certificate Of Bravery."

Gerard Butler became hypothermic after filming the scene in which he and Sir Billy Connolly run naked into the ocean.

Popular Dialogues

"Queen Victoria: Mr Brown. John Brown: Yes, ma'am. Queen Victoria: You have been told repeatedly not to stand in the courtyard unless requested to do so. John Brown: Yes, ma'am. Queen Victoria: Then why do you persist in doing it? John Brown: Because I think Her Majesty is wrong. If ever there was a poor soul who needed fresh air, it is her. Queen Victoria: The Queen will ride out if and when she chooses. John Brown: And I intend to be there when she's ready."

"Lord Stanley: [the Prince of Wales has just had a rather cryptic conversation with Disraeli] What did he want? Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli: To know when he'll be king."
