The story "Made in Chinatown" was in part inspired by writer Mark V. Wiley's love of elements in four films: The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984), Big Trouble in Little China (1986), The Freshman (1990), and Kiss Me, Guido (1997). This was merged with his obsession with the Shaw Bros. classic '80s kung-fu flicks, featuring Meng Lo and Feng Lu.
Made in Chinatown was shot almost entirely in Philadelphia because Philadelphia's Chinatown is so large, authentic and preserved.
The title "Made in Chinatown" is a play on the phrase "Made in China" and the notions of being "Made" in the Mafia. And so "Vinny" Chow literally is "MADE in Chinatown."
"Made in Chinatown" was the closing film at the Newark International Film Festival (09.07.19). It met a sold-out crowded theater and won two awards: 1) Vincent Pastore - Best Actor in a Feature, and 2) Jay Kwon - Best Stunts.
"Mrs. Chow: Vincent, what happened to your Chinese accent? Vinny Chow: I was borne in New York, Ma. I never had a Chinese accent."
"Special Agent Johnson #2: I'm Special Agent Johnson, and this is my partner, Special Agent Johnson. Joey Rissotto: Oh Johnson and Johnson, I love the baby oil. Special Agent Johnson #1: We prefer the Two Johnsons. Lawrence: Double duch fudge, double double dutch fudge."
