The gross and attendance far exceeded expectations, despite CoVid related closures and hold backs. The almost heroic release and subsequent success may kick-start the declining Chinese movie industry since Spring of 2022.
Yilong Zhu was the first and only choice for producer Yan Han and director Jiangjiang Liu, although Liu initially was worried that Yilong Zhu might be too "good-looking" and "classy" for the role. However during filming, Liu was amazed by how Yilong Zhu completely transformed into the character. He said Yilong Zhu was a perfect Mo Sanmei in multiple interviews.
