Ashley Argota Torres and Matt Shively previously co-starred in the series True Jackson, VP (2008), which aired on Disney Channel's rival network, Nickelodeon. They also worked together in The Troop (2009), another Nickelodeon show.
Ashley Argota Torres later appeared as a Bionic Solider on Lab Rats (2012) on Disney XD, which stars Kelli Berglund (again as a Rival to Berglund), though she'd later redeem herself and be given a proper name.
Production began in Toronto, Canada, at a high school called North Toronto Collegiate Institute. It is directed by Paul Hoen, executive produced by Robin Schorr and Adam Kossack, executive co-produced by Dan Seligmann and written by Jason Mayland.
Roger Bart, Doctor James Hartley in the movie, has been connected with Disney. In the past, he was the singing voices of the Title Character in Hercules (1997), and Scamp in Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure (2001). He also made an appearance in the Disney Channel series, Jessie (2011) in the Season 3 episode "Krumping and Crushing" earlier the same year this movie came out, as the dance teacher of Luke Ross.
Mae and Gabi's School Rival in this film is named Navaeh Barnes. Barnes interestingly enough was also the surname of the Main Characters' School Rival in the Disney Channel Original Movie Princess Protection Program (2009) 5 years prior.
"Gabby Harrison: High school boys are like old smart phones. They're buggy, they think too slowly... Mae Hartley: ...and they crash when you need 'em most."
"Gabby Harrison: Our circle may be small, but membership does have its privileges."
