The film was mostly shot in Alabama and required hundreds of extras for some of the bigger scenes. They thought Saturdays would be the best day to shoot those scenes, but the L.A. based crew quickly learned very few locals would show up on Saturdays because of Alabama football.
At the beginning of the movie the childhood pictures of Grace are AJ Michalka's real life pictures.
"Grace Unplugged" is also based on the parable of The Prodigal Son.
Grace plays the piano and guitar. AJ plays the guitar and piano in real life just like her co-star Jamie Grace.
Johnny gives Grace a purity ring for her 18th birthday. In real life AJ Michalka wears a purity ring. AJ's older sister Aly wore a purity ring until the time of her marriage to Stephen Ringer in 2015.
