Writer and director Jacob Chase's wife works with kids on the spectrum which has allowed him to get close to the community over the years. This is what helped when writing the character of Oliver.
Director Jacob Chase used to make Haunted Houses for Halloween for many years in which allowed him to practice making practical props and puppets. Therefore, the crew created a 9 foot (2.74 meters) model for the creature that is mobilized by puppeteers to be used in the film.
It is based on a 2017 short film.
